I just felt the urge to color. I'd spoken with several ladies who colored their locks and with their encouragement, I decided to go for it...and I LUV IT!!! Big props to Karen and Renea.
I was brousing around Sally's Beauty Supply and came across L'Oreal's HiColor for Dark Hair Only. The colors were just what I was seeking - soft browns with no hint of red or orange - and for a change that's what I got - a soft, chocolaty brown. It's hard to capture the true color on photos, but as it matures and the more I'm out here in the Texas sun, I should have some nice highlights. The important thing is that I like it and I'm happy...and I did it.I colored, washed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed and rinsed, then deep conditioned for 30 minutes using a plastic cap. My locks were a little rougher the first day, but I used the Caruso's for church and they softened to their original feel.
Now...to the subject of retightening my own locks. I'm just not gonna be able to do it. I don't have the patience nor desire. I took the retightening class on April 15 and I've tried during the past two weeks. But I'm too tired, too stressed and too disinterested to want to do 469 locks.
I'll use the technique to keep my edges neat, but as far as doing my own head - I will be self-indulgent and allow myself the retightening fee every six weeks. It will be my stress relief gift to myself. I love getting my hair retightened and sharing with my consultant Gigi (pictured here) is more than worth it - such a beautiful spirit!I'm sure there are others like me and I greatly admire those who maintain their own locks, but sistuh just ain't gone be one of 'em. Perhaps as my locks mature, I may come to feel differently...but for now, my next appointment is this coming Friday, April 28 and I'm anxiously waiting to receive my gift...
