I'm always asked about my hair color. The thing is - it's a mixture that results in something I like. Sometimes I use HiRez, Mahogony Blast, or Dark N Lovely's Brown Sugar. This time I used Clairol's TextureTones in Light Golden Brown.
I simply look at various hues of brown, and buy the one I'm feelin' at that time. Fortunately, we have more options now that beauty companies are fast realizing the demand AND profit in products for people of color. However, they have a long way to go.
Yesterday, I used TextureTones in Light Golden Brown because I liked the color and they guarnatee 100% grey coverage. I don't have a problem with my grey, but it's not enough to be attractive - but rather distractive. I feel that people will try to figure out if I have dandruff...hehehe! If I was totally grey, like my friend Diane, now that would be da bomb!
After a wash and condition my locks plump and feel very soft and fluffy, like cotton balls. I'm thinking about washing more often. But I'm mostly lazy about my hair. To wash, condition, dry and roll takes a good portion of the day. The color came out a little darker than usual, but I really like the results. I've gotten so many compliments today.
I colored, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed and rinsed. Then washed and conditioned. Rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed then rinsed some more, added a few drops of Jojoba oil and let air dry. Before bed, I spritzed with water/lottabody and rolled on Spike Curlers. This is today's results: lots of body, bounce and color.
I have always colored my own hair and do so about once every 4-5 months. I'm not recommending color. But if your locks are settled and you're confident, go for it. Of course, I would stop coloring if I felt it was damaging to my locks. But they are healthy and strong and I'm still...luvin' my Sisterlocks!

I have tried the Texture & Tones and the Dark & Lovely as well. Your color turned out great. It is beautiful. I agree, once you color, you have to rinse, rinse and rinse some more. Do you always color your whole head or just touch up the roots? I've always color'd my whole head but a consultant recently advised me to only color the roots, which I think will cause me to have a lot of different colors going on. Just curious. I haven't had a problem with damage or dry locs. So I think I will continue doing what I'm doing and color my whole head aobut every 6months. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, CV and Ree-C. I always color my whole head. I tried just doing the roots this time, cause I was really feeling the color already on my ends. I love it when I see people with locks and lighter ends. But I did take some remaining color and put all over. For me there's just no way around not doing the whole head, although I don't saturate the ends. I'm with you. I don't have any problems with damaged or dry locks, so I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Thanks for the feedback.
I am loving all those curls!!!
You look fantastic! Has anyone told you that today? Okay, how about anyone besides those that found your new post before I did.
Yeah, if I had Diane's s&p color, I would go grey too. That does not come in a bottle.
Oh, so now you're giving color advice? LOL. You look good, keep it up. You're actually more adventurous than I. When the beauty supply didn't have the Hi-Rez, I panicked and chickened out on getting another brand. I need to get with your program!
Thanks, B!
