My Color & My Roots

X got some great shots of my locks the other night. I'm really excited that quite a few of my ends are beginning to seal. You can actually see them - along with my dark roots. I think I need some color!

I'm always asked about my hair color. The thing is - it's a mixture that results in something I like. Sometimes I use HiRez, Mahogony Blast, or Dark N Lovely's Brown Sugar. This time I used Clairol's TextureTones in Light Golden Brown.

I simply look at various hues of brown, and buy the one I'm feelin' at that time. Fortunately, we have more options now that beauty companies are fast realizing the demand AND profit in products for people of color. However, they have a long way to go.

Yesterday, I used TextureTones in Light Golden Brown because I liked the color and they guarnatee 100% grey coverage. I don't have a problem with my grey, but it's not enough to be attractive - but rather distractive. I feel that people will try to figure out if I have dandruff...hehehe! If I was totally grey, like my friend Diane, now that would be da bomb!

After a wash and condition my locks plump and feel very soft and fluffy, like cotton balls. I'm thinking about washing more often. But I'm mostly lazy about my hair. To wash, condition, dry and roll takes a good portion of the day. The color came out a little darker than usual, but I really like the results. I've gotten so many compliments today.

I colored, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed and rinsed. Then washed and conditioned. Rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed then rinsed some more, added a few drops of Jojoba oil and let air dry. Before bed, I spritzed with water/lottabody and rolled on Spike Curlers. This is today's results: lots of body, bounce and color.

I have always colored my own hair and do so about once every 4-5 months. I'm not recommending color. But if your locks are settled and you're confident, go for it. Of course, I would stop coloring if I felt it was damaging to my locks. But they are healthy and strong and I'm still...luvin' my Sisterlocks!
