Don't Throw Away Da Carusos

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I inadvertently discovered a way to get lasting curls with my fav Carusos (pic above, 27M and The Photo Shoot posts.)
I'm always hesitant to use any products on my locks, but I've been searching for something light to help hold my styles. My locks tend to go flat with the added weight of length.

While browsing "our hair product section" at my fav store, Target (I still do that, more from habit than necessity.) I came across Motions Light Styling Foam for Natural or Chemically Treated Hair. I checked for alcohol content - none. So I gave it a try.
I was freestyling but wanted to try to the foam. I applied some to my locks and finger styled. I didn't see any noticeable difference. The following day I set my hair for "the photo shoot" and I had great curls and body.
The curls still only last 1-3 days. But I've always loved the Caruso's for it's quick 10 minute set and the way they give my locks curl and body. I left the curlers in for an extended period as I got dressed and put on my makeup (maybe 30 minutes). Apparently the styling foam, combined with the steam and leaving the curlers in longer equals a great set. There was no residue or stickiness to my locks.

I don't use the styling foam often and I haven't noticed any difference in my locks. The foam is so light it might even work for looser curl patterns like Brunsli's and Leighann's.

I Like 'Em Afterall

I've finally begun to enjoy my highlights and "own" them now that the tones are softer. I got lots of compliments at church today, one in particular from my sister, Gladys; who recently became conscious of Sisterlocks once mom got them otherwise it was just something new that Blaq was tryin'.
Mom made an uncharacteristiclly bold and brave step and I'm so proud her! When we're together people can see what is and what is to be - a powerful testimony to Sisterlocks and natural freedom.
Harriett Tubman said, while being interviewed about freeing one thousand of the enslaved...
"I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves. "

Might the same hold true for our Natural Awakenings?

I'm getting BlaqKofi withdrawal symptions!! I've checked your blog every day since the 4th July anticipating the fabulous pictures with your highlights and your funky new glasses. Evidently you have a life outside of SisterLocks blogging! (Maybe I should get one!LOL)

I love y'all - I swear I do! I have been busy coordinating the move of our entire college to a brand new facility. A major undertaking and I've busted my butt. But BlaqKofi represented big time!

The dynamics of the situation were interesting. I'm the only woman of color in my position. Most of the moving crew was Black and there was a lead brother responsible for our new furniture installation. They all gave me the utmost respect and had my back. I could sense their pride in me and even see it in their eyes. It was awesome and gave me such a feeling of accomplishment. So that's what I've been up to. I still have about another two weeks of hectic stress.

But What about da locs?
Oh yeah, my highlighted Sisterlocks - As the color tones down, I'm beginning to feel more and more comfortable. My camera tends to exaggerate the color some, but everyone, including my sons love it.

Lady P and I met for a quick snack this past week. If you'll recall she was my first Blaqkofi siting.

Most of the time, I simply wear my locks like this with my B-Tie, nothing holds my locks as securely and comfortably.

I wanted to write something profound, but simply don't have the time nor the energy. I'm exhausted and it's Sunday evening! Thanks everyone for visiting. I apologize for not having time to visit other blogs or even email my friends. Brunsli - I owe you an email.

Thanks to everyone who wrote with encouragement about my highlights and even those who wrote with constructive feedback. Much love to Sister-In-Locks who even called to lift a sistuh! Now that's Sisterlock sisterhood!

I don't have much time tonight, so I'll leave you with this. More updates to come on Mom's first wash and retightening. (Her locks are doing great!). Malcolm - he's four months now. And who knows...?

That lead brother over the office furniture crew - was fiiinnnneee! I couldn't help but take down my locks and let them flow before he left. There are some furniture items on back order that will need to be delivered soon, hhhhmmmm......

I've been checking your Website daily for more posts on your highlights. Are you happy with them?

So here you have it - Blaq's highlights...

I've been waiting until I felt comfortable with my highlights before posting pics. I asked for subtle, but got a little more "in yo face" than I was expecting.

I can't honestly say that I'm totally comfortable with the look, but everyone seems to like them. I won't do anything to try and tone them down, I'll just wait for nature to do it's thing. I'm confident that over time, I'll love them. I definitely like them more now than I did day one.

The highlights have given my locks a new dimension. So I decided to embrace the look and take the opportunity to switch things up some. I shopped for new head bands, like the one I'm wearing here, purchased some cute and funky earrings and bracelets and tried some different tones of Mac makeup.

I've been freestyling, wearing my hair up in a high pony or gathered at the nape with my B-tie. My new glasses that I'll pick up tomorrow will finish out my new funky look. It's been fun, although a little out of my comfort zone.

Check out all of my attempts to find a style that I'm comfortable with...

So, what y'all think?
