Let Go in 2008

I like to begin the new year of Natural Awakenings with words of enlightenment. Afterall, this journey is much deeper than the tresses that adorn our heads. My life has been so full of demands that the time to give the subject the attention it deserves has evaded me.

As month one of 2008 comes to its conclusion, I reasoned - what better time to share - when perhaps our New Year's resolve may be somewhat weakened, or possibly usurped by life's challenges.

I was gifted with words of encouragement by two dear friends on two separate occassions. Their words so powerful and confirming of one another that I, in turn, gift them to you....

My Sister wrote:

I wish you the best in this new year. With love I invite you to let go of all that did not serve you in 2007. Next, embrace all that is to come and all that you will create in 2008. You deserve all the good that God has to offer....

Another Sister shared:

There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell you this. When people can walk away from you: let them walk!

I don't want you to try to talk another person into staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you or staying attached to you.

When people can walk away from you let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. The bible said that, they came out from us that it might be made manifest that they were not for us. For had they been of us, no doubt they would have continued with us. [1 John 2:19]

People leave you because they are not joined to you. And if they are not joined to you, you can't make them stay. Let them go. It doesn't mean that they are a bad person; it just means that their part in the story is over. And you've got to know when people's part in your story is over so that you don't keep trying to raise the dead. You've got to know when it's dead. You've got to know when it's over.

I believe in good-bye. It's not that I'm hateful, it's that I'm faithful. I know whatever God means for me to have, He'll give it to me. And if it takes too much sweat I don't need it. Stop begging people to stay. Let them go!!

If you are holding on to something that doesn't belong to you and was never intended for your life, then you need to......LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to past hurts and pains ......LET IT GO!!!

If someone can't treat you right, love you back, and see your worth.....LET IT GO!!!

If someone has angered you.....LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to some thoughts of evil and revenge......LET IT GO!!!

If you are involved in a wrong relationship or addiction......LET IT GO!!!

If you are holding on to a job that no longer meets your needs or talents....LET IT GO!!!

If you have a bad attitude.....LET IT GO!!!

If you keep judging others to make yourself feel better......LET IT GO!!!

If you're stuck in the past and God is trying to take you to a new level in Him........LET IT GO!!!

If you are struggling with the healing of a broken relationship........LET IT GO!!!

If you keep trying to help someone who won't even try to help themselves......LET IT GO!!!

If you're feeling depressed and stressed .....LET IT GO!!!

If there is a particular situation that you are so used to handling yourself and God is saying "take your hands off of it," then you need to.....LET IT GO!!!

Let the past be the past. Forget the former things. God has done something wonderful in 2007 and is doing a new thing for 2008.

Much love Gigi and Jenn...

These are words that I needed to hear this morning. I have been holding onto someone that I should have let go a long time ago.

Thank you for posting this.

I stumbled across your blog about a year ago. I feel as if I know you. You are so positive. And very informative regarding sister locks(it is because of you that I have sister locks). Thanks for sharing the words of encouragement. May God continue to bless you this year.

Blaq,

Wow! These are powerful words and actions to be taken in 2008!

Check out, The Georgia Mass Choir latest CD called "Tell It", I especially love track #8 called "The Best of My Story" (...has never been told). We need to understand that Jesus is unveiling the pages of our story.

I love your spirit and your blog spot! Thanks for having it!

I want to thank you so vey much for sharing your beautiful journey with us of all. You were my very first inspiration to begin Sisterlocks which will be installed within a week or two. After admiring your hair for weeks I finally stated reading your post and I must thank you for sharing this gem for the 2008. You are gorgeous and I hope that one day my Sisterlocks will be as beautiful and healthy as yours. I'll be visiting :-)

You know those words definitely come at a great time. And it's so true, to not hold on to people and situations that don't want to be there. It's best to let them go. You can't find your true happiness until you let the negativity out.

The words are so true yet so many just don't want to let go. The new year being probably the best time to open yourself up to something new and close something old.

On another note I love the hair colour - it's always good to see that hair colour can look just as nice on locks and that you can get those tones and highlightening effects.

I've tagged you and hope you'll join in on the game rules:

1. link to the person that tagged you
2. post the rules on your blog
3. share six non-important things/habits/quirks about yourself
4. tag six random people at the end of your post by linking to their blogs
5. let each random person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog

Hello how are you? The best thing that I ever did was go natural 2yrs strong. The worst thing I ever did 2 my hair was press it out, now it is unruly and I'm not loving it, I ran across your site, and for one I was like I know her, we work for the same company, but anyway I love your locks and I think that would be the perfect solution to my crisis. I've had dreads before but I was limited in styling so I took them out before they locked completely. Sorry to take up so much space, but could you recommend a sisterlock consultant for me.

i believe that God brings people in our lives for a season. When that season is up, it's important to let them go and be thankful for the season. I used to carry my friends like baggage and now I release them, and it is a freeing experience to embrace the NOW.
